Spring/Summer 2023 Trends and Shopping Tips

Spring/Summer 2023 Trends and Shopping Tips - by Paige Taylor
Ontario saw its darkest winter in over 80 years during this 2022/2023 season. While we're still actively living it with a very moody and long March - spring is right around the corner, and we've never been more excited about it!
Our spring intake has ended, and we’re close to selecting a date for the summer consignment intake that will begin in April. The weather is finally starting to respond in favour of all of our beautiful new arrivals! With exciting and very shoppable trends emerging from the runways, streetstyle, and TikTok, the Spring/Summer 2023 season is taking steps towards enhancing functionality, comfort, and simplicity with pieces that are both fashionable and versatile across all seasons. Here's four trends that can help you stay on top of it all:
Sheer and Elegant

Prada Spring/Summer 2023, Maryam Nassir Zadeh Spring/Summer 2023, Ester Manas Spring 2023, Celine Spring/Summer 2023.

From laces to mesh, semi-sheer to sheer, it's making a strong comeback. The beauty of this trend is the unique layering that comes with it. Having fun with multiple layers of textures and tones can create more interest in your look. A wardrobe essential that can carry you through all the seasons simply with the right kind of layering practice. Romantic pastels, bold colourblocking, and whites are most popular.
Florals for Spring?

Stine Goya Spring 2023, With Wonder & Whimsy 2023, Tanya Taylor Pre-Fall 2023, Versace Resort 2023.

...groundbreaking. But it's always so perfect, and it keeps getting better and better every single year. This year we're seeing florals in brighter, more vibrant colours and in understated designs that may not appear floral at first glance but still provides that same fun spring vibe that we're all looking forward to. Go bold and style multiple floral prints together, or pair it with a simple denim and t-shirt look to keep it casual.

NWT LAUREN Ralph Lauren Silk Skirt size 12/large $95 (retail value $225) (personally my favourite piece in the store right now!)

Rainbow Knits and Sweaters

Diesel Resort 2023, Simon Miller Resort 2023, TAAKK Spring/Summer 2023, Adeam Resort 2023.

One of my favourites and something I own a lot of is colourful sweaters, typically basics that I can wear for three seasons but in colours perfectly fit for the fun tones that come with spring trends. Easily one of the most versatile of the trends, simple knits can be layered or worn as stand-alones with equally vibrant colours or toned down in neutrals such as greys and denims. Different prints and mixes of colours can add more interest to a piece while they can still be styled the same as solids.
Function Forward Utilitarian

Copenhagen Street Style 2023, 3.1 Phillip Lim Resort 2023, Anima Animus 2023, Monse Resort 2023.

While the utility look and cargo pants have been back in style for a while, they don't seem to be going anywhere. If you're anything like me, you get crazy excited when a dress or skirt has pockets, and that's why this trend tends to really speak to me. With form and comfort mixed with unique silhouettes, pocket details, and even textures, this look is great for spring layering but versatile enough to last throughout almost every season. And it doesn't just include the utility look. Anything with big pockets and comfort-forward designs are winning this trend.
The key trends this season are versatile meaning that you can wear them for multiple seasons, or for multiple years. Florals always make a comeback, every single spring. Pockets are always convenient, and a good utilitarian jacket with lots of pockets will surely last and get lots of use. Sheer laces and mesh can add unique layers to outfits in any season and for every occasion. And colours are always a fun way to enhance your knit basics. Keep in mind your own personal style, it's easy to take trends like these and make it your own!
