Sustainable Style: Fall Trends That Last

Even if you’re mourning the loss of the warm summer evenings and late sunsets, I think we can all agree that we are heading into the best shopping season of the year. So we’ve scoured the style pages, blogs and vlogs and put together a list of fashion trends for Fall 2024. We here at Style 360 firmly believe that participating in fashion trends doesn’t have to break the bank or hurt the environment. Shop resale, shop your own closet, re-purpose, buy from ethical brands. It is possible to incorporate trends into your wardrobe and still be a responsible buyer. We call it fashion conscience, fashion conscious.

Follow along with us in the coming weeks on our social media as we dive into each of these trends and how you can incorporate them into your own unique style! But for now, let’s see which of this year’s statement looks most catches your fancy shall we?

  • Elegance is back! “Lady-like” style has been seen from many of the big fashion houses. Think leather gloves, pearls, top handle handbags and structured apparel, like tailored blazers, a-line skirts, and pleated trousers.

  • Western Flair! Think Canadian tuxedo. Denim on denim, soft suede in both apparel and accessories. And of course, there wouldn’t be western flair without fringe!

  • Leopard print, any way, any how. If you cannot see yourself wearing a leopard print dress, try adding a printed scarf to your fall wardrobe. How about a boot? A handbag? Even adding a leopard printed belt adds bold allure.

  • Accessories are still key for building a sustainable wardrobe. Belts, both waist and hip slung are seen on the runways. Slouchy shoulder handbags and soft clutches are the bag styles of the season. Mix your metals! Wear all your favourite silver, gold and rose gold pieces creating a mix of eye catching necklines and arm candy. There are no rules!

  • What about colour? Deep dark red is the colour of the season, but shades of natural greens and browns are equally relevant for FW2024.

  • Layering, it’s easy in Canada! Layering with accessories like scarves and belts. Shirts under sweaters, blazers over sweaters. Show off that collar! Blazers as outerwear shows style and practicalness.

  • Knit trends: Rolled necklines including turtleneck, cowl neck and mock necks. Mohair and cashmere, more textured knits. Cardigans are integral for fall layering; wear them fully buttoned as a popover, or monochromatic twin sets are seen on the fashion pages. And the knit duster is the gift that keeps on giving for our Canadian autumn.

  • Outerwear is so important in our temperate country. Make your outerwear the star of the show. Bold colours, patterns and prints; unique details on collars or sleeves. The Moto jacket remains a fall staple. Wool coats in earthy tones. The barn coat, a take on a utility jacket. Capes. Duvet inspired coats continue to be on trend. The choices are endless!

  • Volume! Wide leg, or barrel legged jeans; full or balloon skirts; oversized knits. Another example is Canadian designer Marie Saint Pierre. She has made a career of adding structured volume to her designs.

  • Fall 2024 footwear trends? There is something for everyone! Think pointy toed pumps, lower heeled pumps, classic pumps (has the pandemic effect finally been pushed to the side?), pointy toe flats and slingbacks too. We are still seeing moto style boots, over the knee boots and embellished boots. Loafers; classic, thick soled, or heeled. Comfort rules this season.
